SPT presents its latest directional surveying technology at the XXI Peruvian Geological Congress
The XXI Peruvian Geological Congress is a biennial scientific and technological event that takes place from November 14 to 17, 2023 in Lima.
This event is organized by the Geological Society of Peru. It’s goal is to bring together professionals in the geosciences and related fields in the country.
The congress is organized in conjunction with the II Foro de Fomento de Inversión en Proyectos Mineros – FIPMIN, a new event aimed at bringing together representatives of Peruvian mining projects and prospects with potential investors, including a session on technological advances in mining exploration.
Resource geology experts will be available to meet with attendees and share ideas on mining projects and solutions.
In addition, innovative geological discoveries, earth science research and applied geology will be shared to showcase cutting-edge technology and best practices for achieving sustainability and harnessing natural resources for the country’s development.
The event takes place at the Convention & Sport Center de la Universidad ESAN, which offers the opportunity to have first class facilities, specially designed to attend events of this magnitude, as well as a strategic location and high quality services that ensure an enriching and rewarding experience for all participants.

The Peruvian Geology Congress addresses a wide variety of topics related to Geosciences and related branches such as:
- Economic Geology
- Hydrocarbons and Energy
- Geotechnics and Geological Engineering
- Geophysics and Geochemistry
- Hydrogeology
- Risk and Disasters
- Climate Change
In addition, during the event, there will be sessions of oral presentations, keynote lectures, technical exhibitions, exhibitions of generative geological projects and core shack of mining projects led by junior companies and prospectors, refresher courses, round tables and field trips.
At FIPMIN, experiences will be shared to support the growth of ventures.
There will also be specialized forums, such as “Hydrocarbons”, “Climate Change”, or “Women in Geosciences”.
Keynote lectures will be given by prestigious specialists from the United States, Europe and Peru.

The SPT Peru team led by Carolina Gutiérrez, Country Manager for the country, will be present at booth #50 and will show attendees the company’s latest developments and advances in trajectory measurement technologies, such as the GyroMaster™, a leading instrument in the mining exploration industry designed to accurately and continuously measure the trajectory of vertical boreholes.
It uses advanced Navibore™,solid-state gyroscope technology, which, together with its intuitive software, ensures maximum measurement accuracy.
It stands out as the fastest and most accurate true north finder, enabling high-speed measurements without stalling and reducing downtime.
This is a rare opportunity to learn how SPT’s innovations can take your mining operations to the next level, combining accuracy, efficiency and state-of-the-art technology.
Geology and Mining in Peru
Peru’s geology is one of the most diverse on the planet. This country is home to a variety of geological formations ranging from the coastal plains to the Andes to the Amazon rainforest.
This diversity is not only a challenge for geologists but also a unique opportunity for mineral discovery.
Mining has traditionally been the mainstay of the Peruvian economy, accounting for about 10% of the country’s GDP and 60% of its exports.
Peru is one of the world’s largest producers of silver, copper and gold. It also has significant reserves of zinc and lead.
The Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet) is the main agency responsible for geological and mining research in Peru.
It has an economic geology database that is updated every six months and includes data on mining operations and projects.
In August 2023, Ingemmet presented geological and mining research in the Piura region with the aim of sharing knowledge and highlighting the importance of geology in territorial planning, infrastructure and mining.
In general, the situation of geology and mining in Peru presents opportunities and challenges. The country has a rich geological heritage and important mineral resources, but there are also important social and environmental considerations to be taken into account.
