The SPT Colombia team was present at the Colombia Gold Symposium held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Medellín on November 7th and 8th.
The symposium is an annual event focused on Colombia’s mining industry, with an emphasis on the exploration and development of copper and gold projects.
It aims to highlight mining investment opportunities and provide information on the country’s risk factors, legal and regulatory developments, community issues, environment, water, and innovation.
Participants at the event had the opportunity to network and exchange views on the mining industry with experts from various countries attending the conference.

In addition, an augmented reality experience took place at SPT’s booth where participants were able to experience first-hand the benefits of SPT’s solutions.
Mining in Colombia
Mining in Colombia is one of the country’s most important economic activities, with a history dating back to pre-Columbian times.
Colombia is rich in natural resources and is known for its production of coal, nickel, emeralds, gold, and other minerals. Mining has contributed significantly to the country’s GDP and remains a key sector for economic development and attracting foreign investment.
Mining takes place in a variety of regions, with coal concentrated in the Cesar region and the department of Guajira, nickel in Córdoba, gold in Antioquia and Chocó, and emeralds in Boyacá, among others.
The Colombian mining industry faces challenges related to illegal mining, environmental problems, and social issues. The Colombian government is committed to promoting sustainable mining practices and has taken steps to strengthen the institutional framework for the mining sector.
Mining in the country currently employs approximately 350.000 people directly, and another 1.5 million indirectly.
