Peru, May 2025. Lima will once again be the epicenter of mining exploration in Latin America with the celebration of proEXPLO 2025, the International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers, to be held May 5-7 at the Lima Convention Center.
This event, organized by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), is one of the most important meetings for the geological mining community in Latin America, bringing together leading companies, international specialists, and professionals in the field.
ProEXPLO is characterized by its high-level technical program, which includes keynote lectures, specialized training courses, and a wide range of technological solutions for mining exploration.

As a prelude to the event, on April 30 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. we will host the webinar “StructMaster: structural logging beyond core shack”, presented by geologist engineer César Rubín, from Stockholm Precision Tools. This session will cover methods for structural logging in the field, with a focus on optimizing workflows and improving geostructural data management.

Mining and Geology in Peru 2025
Mining and geology in Peru face a dynamic scenario in 2025, characterized by political challenges, technological advances, and opportunities for sustainable growth. According to projections by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), metallic mining production will grow by 2.5% this year, driven by a 7.7% increase in mining investment. However, the pre-electoral context creates uncertainty, and it is possible that decisions on emblematic projects such as Yanacocha Sulfuros and Zafranal, whose execution could be postponed until 2026, will be delayed.
In parallel, Peru’s mining exploration portfolio will reach a historic milestone in 2025, with 84 active projects and an estimated investment of US$1039 million, a 75% increase over the US$644 million recorded in 2024. This rebound reflects a renewed confidence in the country’s geological prospectivity, particularly in regions such as Ancash, Apurimac, and Arequipa, where junior and major initiatives are converging. During the PDAC 2025 Summit in Toronto, Minister Jorge Montero highlighted that Peru remains attractive on a global scale thanks to the combination of legal stability and untapped geological potential.

In this regard, Adán Pino, a member of the proEXPLO 2025 organizing committee, points out that Peru has unique opportunities to discover world-class deposits. The Peruvian Andes are home to several fertile magmatic arcs, such as the Paleocene, responsible for 50% of the country’s historic copper production, and the Miocene, the source of 62.5% of the country’s mined gold. New technologies such as hyperspectral remote sensing and machine learning, applied to the updating of geological mapping, are making it possible to identify new mineralized zones, particularly in the Altiplano and Eastern Cordillera.
Peru, epicenter of geological innovation
The year 2025 represents a key milestone in the transition of Peruvian mining and geology. Although political factors may slow down large-scale projects, technical advances in exploration, structural modeling, and environmental management are paving the way for more sustainable development. Record investment in exploration (US$1039 million) and the start of 11 construction projects with a total investment of US$8 billion reflect the resilience of the sector. However, for this momentum to succeed, effective governance is needed to balance economic, environmental, and social interests.
The systematic updating of geological mapping, combined with advanced technological tools, is consolidating Peru as a true natural laboratory for global exploration, positioning it as a strategic player in the global energy transition. To take advantage of these opportunities, it will be essential to maintain a predictable regulatory framework, promote constant social dialogue, and continue to focus on technological innovation as a pillar of growth.
